What adds to the functionality of the kitchen are kitchen sinks. Of course, it also adds to the aesthetic look of the kitchen. But more than the looks, the various kitchen functions can be carried out effectively only if there is a good quality sink.

There are different types of kitchen sinks available in the market, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Let us have a look at the different types of kitchen sinks and where each type of sink fits.

What are the different types of kitchen sinks?

  • Single bowl sink

As the name suggests, these sinks have a single bowl. Thus, they are best suited for small kitchens with limited space. Typically, the bowl will be rectangular in shape to accommodate more vessels.

Single-bowl sinks in large sizes are also available for large kitchens. But normally, this type of sink is used in small rooms.

  • Double basin sink

This is an elaborate kitchen sink with two basins. While one basin can be used for washing vessels, the other can be used for rinsing. Double basin sink is thus a very versatile sink which lets you finish the job fast.

The disadvantage of this type of sink is that it might be difficult to accommodate large vessels on both sides.

  • Corner sink

This type of sink is designed exclusively for the corner space and thus it helps save the space in the kitchen. However, this type of sinks are not very commonly found and hence can be expensive.

  • Apron sink

Apron sinks are single bowl sinks with great depth. Typically the sink will be as deep as the top drawers of the counter and fits perfectly along the sides of the countertop. The main advantage of apron sink is that since they are deep, it is easy to wash large vessels in such sink. Moreover, this type of sinks provide a beautiful look in the kitchen.

The drawback of this sink is that water tends to drip out as the edge is very narrow. Moreover, this type of sink can be expensive when compared to others.

  • Drainboard sink

This sink comes with a basin on one side and a drain board on the other side. Once you wash the vessels, you can place it on the drain board and the water will automatically drip and flows to the sink. You can thus dry the dishes without messing up other areas.

However, the sink size of the drainboard sinks tend to be small. Washing large vessels can thus be a challenge. The drainboard will be of use only if you wash vessels frequently by hand.

  • Integrated sink

In normal sink installation a provision will be made on the countertop for installing the sink and the sink will be fixed separately. In case of integrated sink, the sink is integrated onto the countertop by the manufacturer. The countertop and the sink blends in seamlessly and create a uniform flow. This adds to the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen.

Since integrated sinks are custom-ordered sinks, they are relatively expensive. If, by chance, the sink is damaged, then the whole countertop needs to be changed, which can prove to be expensive.

Having the right type of sink is highly essential in the kitchen as it adds to the functionality of the space. Besides it also makes your work easy and can add to the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen.
